HMRC has unveiled a new online platform, Tax Confident, aimed at helping people better understand their tax responsibilities and close common knowledge gaps.
The site is built around real-life situations, making it easier for users to find information tailored to their circumstances. Key areas include topics such as tax in retirement, small businesses, and working life.
It also features a dedicated tax basics section, designed to guide users through essential concepts. Alongside this, visitors can access information about the free HMRC app and learn how to get additional support if needed.
According to HMRC, the platform uses simple explanations, videos, and practical examples to make tax more accessible. For those who want to explore further, it also links directly to more detailed guidance on GOV.UK.
Current resources particularly focus on groups who may feel less confident about tax, including pensioners and individuals starting new small businesses—people who are often more likely to seek extra support.
Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC Chief Customer Officer and Customer Services Director General, said:
“We know that tax can feel confusing at times, especially when you are not sure where to start. HMRC’s Tax Confident website is here to help people get to grips with the basics, covering everything from the tax essentials for new businesses to the need-to-knows for retirement.
“Tax Confident is designed to help you feel informed, capable and in control when it comes to managing your tax.”
