Businesses and employers

  • Selling your business: the Business Asset Disposal Relief lifetime limit is set to fall from £1 million to £500,000 for disposals from 6 April 2027. The 18% relief rate is unchanged.
  • Investment in equipment: the first-year allowance rises from 40% to 50% for qualifying expenditure from 1 January 2027. Main-pool writing-down allowances fall to 12% from April 2027.
  • Employment costs: the National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over rises to £13.21 an hour from 1 April 2027. Mandatory payrolling of specified benefits is due from 6 April 2027.
  • Making Tax Digital: the April 2027 expansion covers qualifying sole traders and landlords with combined gross trading and property income over £30,000. Digital records and quarterly updates need preparation.
  • VAT and business rates: the VAT registration threshold remains £90,000. Targeted business rates support is announced for retail, hospitality and leisure; eligibility and location matter.

Individuals and savers

  • Income Tax: the Personal Allowance stays at £12,570 for 2027/28. Rates on earnings are unchanged, while frozen thresholds can increase the tax paid as income rises.
  • Savings interest: rates are set to rise to 24%, 44% and 49% from 6 April 2027, subject to allowances. This is a four-point increase on 2026/27, combining the previous Budget's two points with two more announced this time.
  • ISAs: the planned cut to the cash ISA limit is reversed, retaining the £20,000 annual allowance. A new First Time Buyer ISA is planned from April 2029.
  • Pensions and estate planning: most unused pension funds and death benefits are due to enter the Inheritance Tax calculation from 6 April 2027. Review the wider effect on your estate and beneficiaries.

Property owners

  • Rental income: property Income Tax rates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are set at 24%, 44% and 49% from 6 April 2027. Scottish property income rates are still to be announced.
  • Landlords and digital reporting: the £30,000 Making Tax Digital threshold uses gross qualifying income, before expenses, including your share of jointly owned property income.
